Why an oral and maxillofacial surgeon?
Oral and maxillofacial surgeons are the only dental specialists recognized by the American Dental Association who are surgically trained in a hospital-based residency program for a minimum of four years. They train alongside medical residents in internal medicine, general surgery and anesthesiology, and spend time in otolaryngology (ear, nose and throat), plastic surgery, emergency medicine and other specialty areas. This training focuses almost completely on the bone, skin and muscle of the face, mouth and jaw. Oral and facial surgeons have knowledge and expertise that uniquely qualifies them to diagnose and treat a number of functional and esthetic conditions in this anatomical area. Oral and facial surgeons and their staff maintain a “Culture of Safety” in their practice to ensure patients have a safe, comfortable and successful experience.
Administration of Sedation and Anesthesia
Dr. Ringler is a diplomate of the National Dental Board of Anesthesiology.
As an oral and maxillofacial surgeon, Dr. Ringler is trained in all aspects of anesthesia administration. He served on the medical anesthesiology service, where he evaluated patients for anesthesia, deliver the anesthetic and monitor post-anesthetic patients. As a result of his extensive training, every he is well-prepared to appropriately administer local anesthesia, all forms of sedation and general anesthesia. He is experienced in airway management, endotracheal intubation, establishing and maintaining intravenous lines, and managing complications and emergencies that may arise during the administration of anesthesia.
Before your surgery, Dr. Ringler will review the type of anesthetic to be used, as well as the way you’re likely to feel during and after the operation. This is the time to discuss any concerns you may have about any facet of the operation. Usually, patients describe their feelings during surgery as comfortable and surprisingly pleasant. After surgery, you may be prescribed a medication to make you as comfortable as possible when you get home.
Dental Implants
Dental implants are designed to provide a foundation for replacement teeth that look, feel, and function like natural teeth. The person who has lost teeth regains the ability to eat virtually anything and can smile with confidence, knowing that teeth appear natural and that facial contours will be preserved.
That being said, dental implants has small percentage of failure and complications. Oral surgeons are trained not only in placement of implants, but also solve and treat less favorable outcomes.
Dental implants are changing the way people live. With them, people are rediscovering the comfort and confidence to eat, speak, laugh and enjoy life.

Orthognathic Surgery (Corrective Jaw Surgery)
Orthognathic surgery is needed when the top and bottom jaws don’t meet correctly and/or teeth don’t adequately fit within the jaw. Teeth are straightened with orthodontics, and corrective jaw surgery repositions a misaligned jaw. This not only improves facial appearance, but also ensures that teeth meet correctly and function properly.
